PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- The Elmira College Soaring Eagles Men’s Ice Hockey team took the ice Wednesday night in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament against the Colonels of Curry College. Elmira College entered the contest with an overall 18-8-1 record, while the ECAC Northeast champion Colonels possessed a 19-8-1 overall record.

Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the Colonels to a 23-7 victory over Lasell in their season opener with a seven goal and two assist performance. Hansbury also contributed a caused turnover, draw control, and four ground balls in the win.

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College sophomore attacker Evan Hammersley (Lynnfield, Mass.) notched a pair of game-winning goals to lead the Colonels to a 2-0 start to the new season. Hammersly had three goals and an assist in a 7-6 win over Mount Ida to open up the year, then followed up with two goals and an assist in a 6-5 victory over UMass-Boston.

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College scored five second-period goals then held off Johnson & Wales, winning 5-4 and capturing the 2010 ECAC Northeast Tournament Championship. The Colonels (19-8-1) earned their first conference title since 2005 and will represent the ECAC Northeast in next week’s NCAA Division III Championship. The Wildcats finished their season at 12-15-1.
