CURRY COLLEGE ATHLETICS

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College placekicker Matt Alksninis (Mansfield, Mass.) was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division District 1 First Team.

Alksninis was one of 25 student-athletes in District 1 (New England, New York State) chosen for the prestigious award that recognizes achievements both on the field and in the classroom.

Academically, the junior Management major has compiled a 3.32 cumulative GPA through four semesters. On the gridiron, Alksninis concluded the 2009 season by establishing a pair of school records. He connected on nine-consecutive field goal attempts and was successful on all 35 of his extra-point attempts (also a New England Football Conference record). Alksninis also led the Colonels in scoring with 74 points.
