SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior midfielder Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, MA) netted a team-high four goals and also had an assist as the Western New England College women’s lacrosse team defeated Curry 10-7 in a quarterfinal round of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Tournament on Saturday (May 1).

This was a rematch of last year’s conference quarterfinal contest when Curry came out on top 11-10. WNEC defeated the Colonels in the regular season 15-10.

The Golden Bears will face top seed Endicott on Wednesday in Beverly at 4 p.m.

Curry ends its season with a 12-6 mark.

Western New England College (11-7) gained a quick 3-0 start as three different players scored including junior attacker Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY), Fenton, and junior attacker Nicole Squadrito (Ellington, CT) in the opening 8:49.

Barbato and Squadrito both finished with two goals apiece. Barbato also had an assist.

Senior midfielder Rachel Robichaud (Billerica, MA) halted the scoring string and put Curry on the board with 18:40 remaining in the half. She finished with three goals and an assist.

WNEC led 8-2 at the half.

The difference maker was draw controls as the Golden Bears had a 13-6 advantage over the Colonels. Junior attacker Marisa Hebert (Saco, ME) tallied 10 for the hosts.

Sophomore attacker Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) and junior defender Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) each picked up a team high four ground balls.

The Colonels got within two after sophomore attacker Jessie Koffman (Andover, MA) put in one of her team-high four goals to make it 8-6 with 15:29 left in the half.

The Golden Bears called a timeout and 14 seconds later Fenton tallied her 63rd goal of the season.

Curry senior attacker Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, MA) who led the conference in points (76 goals, 44 assists, 120 points) was held to only one shot.

Western New England College junior goalkeeper Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) finished with 12 saves.

Junior goalie Maria Lynch (Billerica, MA) had nine saves for Curry.
