MILTON, Mass. – A sweep of doubles competition helped lift Curry past Wentworth, 7-2, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) women’s tennis action Tuesday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels improved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Leopards fell to 1-1 (1-1 TCCC).
The freshman duo of Emily Mongello and Lauren Chuha defeated sophomore Joanna Gustafson and senior Meredith Gratton, 8-1, at #1 doubles. Another pair of rookies - Devin Curley and Megan Mulrooney took care of sophomore Natalya Cappellini and Lana Ho, 9-8, at #2 doubles. Senior Lauren Maloney and freshman Elizabeth Zarkades completed the sweep by knocking off freshmen Deborah Massaro and Olivia Hegner, 8-6, at #3 doubles.
In singles, host Curry got wins from Mulrooney at #1, Mongello at #3, Chuha at #4 and junior Kathleen Rush at #5. Wentworth earned its points at #2 and #6, where Cappellini handled Maloney in straight sets, and Massaro did the same against Curley.
Curry resumes play this Thursday traveling to Johnson & Wales for a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m. Wentworth also steps out of conference to host Emerson this Thursday as well.
