SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Four Curry College football student-athletes have been honored as the Commonwealth Coast Football Players/Rookies of the Week. Senior captain Alex Corvese (Cranston, R.I.) was named the Offensive Player of the Week. Senior Joseph Grogan (Forestdale, Mass.) brought home t Defensive Player of the Week honors. Marc Mrozek (Stratford, Conn.) collects his second Special Teams Player of the Week award of the season while freshman Marcus Greenidge (Flushing, N.Y.) was named the Defensive Rookie of the Week, as the awards were announced by the conference office on Sunday morning. The quartet each played a big role in the Colonels 30-27 victory over UMass Dartmouth as Curry moved to 4-1 on the season.
Corvese produced two scores through the air as two of his 29 completed passes were for touchdowns. Overall he threw for 377 yards with a 65.9 completion percentage and a 148.3 efficiency rating. He also rushed 13 times including a couple of touchdown runs.
Grogan was a defensive force, recording six tackles, including two sacks, with all of them going for negative yardage. Grogan also forced a fumble in the contest.
Mrozek tallied six points in Curry's victory. The junior kicker converted his only field goal attempt, a 23-yarder, and also made three extra points. In the punting game, Mrozek averaged 41 yards per punt on three attempts. His longest went for 57 yards and he had one kick inside the 20.
Greenidge collects Defensive Rookie of the Week honors after he led all Colonels freshman with three tackles (all solo).
Curry opens Commonwealth Coast Football play this weekend when they travel to Becker on Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m.
