MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Gordon College topped Curry College, 58-49, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball match-up Thursday night in Milton. The Fighting Scots improved to 6-6 on the season and 3-2 in CCC action, while the Colonels fell to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in league play.
The Colonels mounted a furious comeback to begin the second half, and briefly took the lead at 38-36 on a made jumper by junior Danny Brooks (Boston, Mass.) with just under 13 minutes remaining in the game. But the Fighting Scots regained the momentum, and went on to double up the hosts, 22-11, and secure the nine-point victory.
Seniors Taylor Bajema (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Jason Dempsey (Wallingford, Conn.) each scored 15 points to lead the Fighting Scots. Dempsey also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Dominic Paradis (Rochester, N.H.) chipped in with nine points on three baskets from beyond the arc.
Brooks paced Curry with a game-high 18 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Senior Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) scored 15 points, while classmate Matt Russell (South Portland, Maine) grabbed seven boards.
Both teams resume conference play on Saturday, with Gordon hosting Salve Regina for a 3:00 p.m. contest, and Curry traveling to Endicott for a 1:00 p.m. game.
