SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Curry Women's Soccer team has been selected to finish fifth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Coaches' Poll which were revealed on Monday afternoon.
Curry head coach Jason Tassinari enters for his sixth season on the sidelines for the Colonels. Curry is coming off a 2016 season that saw them finish with an 11-9-2 overall record, their third straight double digit victory campaign, including a trip to the CCC Semifinals and the ECAC Tournament. The Colonels will rely on senior captains Abby Ford (Halifax, Mass.) and Cassandra Grasso (Wilmington, Mass.) to stabilize the back four and provide offense and give an edge to the squad. Sophomore goalkeepers Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.), Katelyn DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.), and Haley Rice (Lexington, Mass.) will look to take the torch from Morgan Stott, who graduated in 2016. Other returning contributors will be seniors Arianna Viscione (Quincy, Mass.), Samantha McGrath (Carver, Mass.), Amanda Crisfulla (Raynham, Mass.), Korinna Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.), Julianna Petrucelli (Milford, Conn.) and junior Shae Breslin (Bridgewater, Mass.). Curry will welcome 11 newcomers to the 2017 roster who will look to help the Colonels build off a successful 2016 campaign.
Roger Williams captured five of a possible 10 first place votes in the voting to rank first with 94 points. Endicott gathered 93 points and the final five first place votes to place second. Wentworth placed third in the poll with 83 while the University of New England finished with 67 points. Curry closed out the top five with 50 total points.
Salve Regina (47), Gordon (46), Western New England (39), Nichols (17), and Eastern Nazarene (14) closed out the poll in that order.
The Colonels open up play on Fri. Sept. 1. when they head to Rhode Island College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
