Baseball Drops Opener, Grabs Nightcap in TCCC Doubleheader at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Curry College and Gordon College split a doubleheader in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) baseball action Saturday afternoon in Wenham. The Fighting Scots captured the opener, 3-2, before the Colonels bounced back in the nightcap, 4-1. Curry now stands at 10-14 overall and 6-8 in TCCC action, while Gordon is 4-19 overall and 2-10 in league play.
GAME ONE

The Colonels broke on top in the first inning, plating a pair of runs after an RBI double by Matt Drew and a run-scoring single by Andrew Waldrip. Curry went scoreless the rest of the way, and the Fighting Scots eventually tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and pushed across the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Drew took the loss, falling to 2-2 on the season. He threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, two walks and two earned runs while striking out five.

Matt O’Neill (1-3) tossed a complete-game eight-hitter, walking just one while striking out five. The Colonels took a 1-0 first-inning lead on an RBI single by Brad Hawn. Curry then put the game away in the sixth, as Sam Barron scored on a passed ball and Kyle Connors hit a sacrifice fly to bring home David Stevens. Barron would knock home the Colonels’ final run on an RBI-double in the seventh.
