Vail and Simon Are Named as TCCC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week
MILTON, Mass. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) has honored a pair of Colonels' baseball players for their performance during the week of March 16-22:
TCCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Curry College junior first baseman Rick Vail (Lynnfield, Mass.) batted .682 (15-for-22) with three home runs, seven RBI and 10 runs scored, and lifted the Colonels to a perfect 6-0 weekly record. Vail, who recorded three two-hit games and a trio of three-hit games against TCCC competition, has batted safely in all 14 games that Curry has played this season.
TCCC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Curry College senior Jim Simon (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) earned wins in two conference games against Eastern Nazarene and Gordon. In an 11-6 win over ENC, Simon entered with the Colonels trailing 6-5 in the fifth inning and struck out the side in just one inning of work. He followed with six solid innings in a 8-1 win over Gordon, in which he struck out eight and allowed just one run on four hits. Simon went 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in seven innings with 11 strikeouts.
