Baseball Falls to Wheaton, 10-4
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College baseball lost a non-conference matchup with Wheaton College, 10-4. The Colonels are now 9-13 overall, while the Lyons now stand at 15-6 overall.
Curry got out to an early 1-0 lead, following an RBI double to left off the bat of Matt Rodriguez (Quincy, MA), scoring Shayne McDonald (Cambridge, MA). After two scoreless innings, Wheaton tied the game in the fourth, scoring a run after Dan Haugh (Andover, MA) hit a sacrifice fly to center.
In the fifth, the Lyons took a big lead after scoring four more runs on six hits. The first hit came with one out, after Mike Biscelgia (New Boston, NH) doubled to right center. Tad Skelley (Wolfeboro, NH) followed that with a single to center to bring home Biscelgia. Hadi Raad (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) then doubled to left, scoring Skelley. After Hal Landers (Salem, NH) singled to third, Eric Laliberte (Nashua, NH) singled to left field to bring home Raad. After the second out of the inning, Haugh singled to center field to bring home Laliberte.
Wheaton padded its lead in the sixth after Raad hit a three-run homer to left center. The Colonels responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single to center off the bat of Ben Blaisdell (Mansfield, MA). In the ninth, the Lyons added two more runs on the scoreboard.
Justin Dickinson (Stratford, CT) picked up the win, giving up one earned run on five hits, while striking out four. Kyle Moore (Lynn, MA) absorbed the loss, giving up five earned runs on eight hits.
Both teams resume play on Saturday. Curry travels to Gordon College for a conference doubleheader at 12:00 p.m., while the Lyons host Brandeis for a single nine-inning game with a 1:00 p.m. start.
