Baseball Drops Game to Lesley in Extra Innings
Milton, MA - The Curry Baseball team lost their seventh straight game on Sunday, falling to Lesley 11-8 in extra innings. The Colonels are now 1-7 on the season, while the Lynx are 6-4.
The Lynx struck first by scoring five runs in the top of the third inning, but the Colonels immediately responded in the bottom half of the inning with a two RBI double from Yadiel Santos. After the Lynx scored another run in the fourth, the Colonels answered right back with two more. The first came on a Jasiah Rodriques solo home run to center, and the second on an error, making it 6-4. The Colonels added a fifth run in the seventh on a fielder's choice, making it 6-5. Both teams scored a run in the eighth, and the Lynx added an insurance run in the ninth. The Colonels trailed 8-6 as they headed for their last at bats. After a a pair of singles, and a pair of groundouts, the Colonels had runners at second and third with two outs, and Blake Fuller at the plate. On a 1-1 pitch, the Anna Maria transfer laced a pitch down the left field line, knocking both runners in on a double. He then stole third, and was the winning run, just 90 feet away from the plate. But a suicide squeeze attempt failed, and Fuller was tagged out on a botched steal attempt. The Lynx would score three in the 10th, and then shut the Colonels down in the bottom half of the inning, giving them the 11-8 win.
The Colonels had 12 hits, with three coming from Blake Fuller, and two each from Yadiel Santos and Ryan Murphy. The team stole six bases, including three from Fuller.
On the mound, Henry Marino started for the Colonels, going 3.1 innings, allowing seven hits and six earned runs. He was relieved by Lucas daCosta, who pitched very well, going six innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs, three of which came in his sixth inning of work. He struck out eight, and walked none.
