Colonels Battle But Fall in Extras to Framingham State
Milton, MA - The Curry College baseball team rallied from an early deficit but ultimately fell to Framingham State, 9-8, in extra innings on Wednesday afternoon at Jack Vallely Diamond.
Framingham State jumped out to a quick lead, plating four runs in the second inning highlighted by a three-run home run from Christian Cox. The Rams added two more in the third and two in the fifth to build an 8-1 advantage.
Curry got on the board in the second when Anthony Figueroa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing home Joey Kazlauskas. The Colonels then mounted a major comeback in the sixth inning, scoring five runs to cut the deficit to 8-6. Yadiel Santos delivered an RBI single before Taylor Diaz drove in two with a double. Curry capitalized on wild pitches to plate two more runs in the inning.
The comeback continued in the seventh as Michael Frausto came through with a two-run single to center, scoring Ryan Murphy and Danny Leyva to even the game at 8-8.
After four scoreless innings from Aiden Agee out of the bullpen helped keep Curry even, the game remained tied into extra innings. In the 10th, Framingham State pushed across the go-ahead run on an single by Colin Johnson, aided by a Curry fielding error.
Curry threatened throughout the game, drawing 11 walks and collecting nine hits, but was unable to find the equalizer in the bottom of the 10th.
Frausto led the offense with two RBIs, while Diaz also added two RBIs and Santos chipped in a run-scoring hit. Kazlauskas and Devin Grove each recorded doubles as part of Curry's nine-hit effort.
On the mound, Agee was effective in relief, tossing four scoreless innings with one strikeout.
