Jones' Double-Double Lifts Men's Basketball Past CCC Rival Western New England, 69-60

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College junior Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down a career-best 19 rebounds, leading his team to a 69-60 win over visiting Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s basketball action Tuesday night in Milton. The Colonels improved to 5-8 overall and 3-3 in CCC play, while the Golden Bears fell to 4-9 overall and 1-6 in conference action.
Curry took its biggest lead of the first half (27-17) with 6:14 left in the period after senior Michael Connery (Narragansett, R.I.) drained a three-pointer. WNE responded with a 14-5 run over the remainder of the first frame to cut the deficit to one (32-31) at intermission.
The Golden Bears opened the first 2:40 of the second half with a 7-0 run capped off with a jumper by sophomore Daniel Minto (West Hempstead, N.Y.). The Colonels took a lead they would never surrender after freshman Lamar Phillips (Pittsfield, Mass.) sank a shot from beyond the arc with 7:21 left in regulation. Curry went on to score 16 of the game’s final 26 points.
In addition to Jones, the Colonels got 11 points from Connery and nine points from sophomore Abel Ribeiro (Charlestown, Mass.).
WNE was led by senior Andre Shaw (New York, N.Y.) with a team-high 18 points. Junior Damon Alston (New Britain, Conn.) added 12, while Minto scored 10.
Both teams are on the road this Thursday at 8:00 p.m. with Curry traveling to Eastern Nazarene and Western New England visiting Roger Williams.
