Late Surge Falls Short as Colonels Fall to Bison 85-77
December 2, 2025
MILTON, Mass. – In a fast-paced, physical matchup inside Katz Gymnasium, the Curry College men's basketball team battled but ultimately fell short in a 85-77 Conference of New England (CNE) loss to Nichols College on Tuesday night. Despite a great performance from freshman Nethaniel Clemente, the Colonels couldn't overcome Nichols' free-throw advantage or the play of guard Javen Flowers-Smith.
Curry opened the game with strong interior play, leaning heavily on Clemente, who delivered an impactful double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. His presence on the glass gave Curry multiple second-chance opportunities, helping the Colonels keep pace during an up-tempo first half that ended with Nichols leading 45–39.
Nichols built its lead largely through the attacking style of Flowers-Smith. The senior guard poured in 30 points, fueled by a 14-of-23 performance at the free-throw line. Nichols' repeated trips to the stripe proved to be the difference in the contest, as they finished 25-of-37 from the line compared to Curry's 11-of-18.
Curry continued to battle in the second half, getting key offensive spurts from Manny Hidalgo, who posted 11 points, and Tommy Mallinson, who added 10 points to go along with four assists and six rebounds. Jeremiah Predin also had an impact in his 11 minutes, scoring eight points on 4-of-6 shooting, while James Scali provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, including two timely three-pointers. After trailing by as many as 13 at the 6:27 mark in the second half, the Colonels didn't concede as they slowly chipped away and saw the Bison' lead shrink to just three points (80-77) with under a minute to go, after forward Shawn Charles threw down an alley-oop slam. Then it would become the foul-game, but the Bison who had hit free throws all night effectively iced the game hitting 5-of-6 attempts to seal the win.
Despite shooting a solid 44.8 percent from the floor and matching Nichols with 43 total rebounds, Curry struggled to slow the Bison's balanced scoring and physicality inside. Nichols forward Olivier St. Louis added 14 points and 13 boards, while guard Dominic Mello contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds, giving the Bison three double-digit rebounders on the night.
Curry clawed within striking distance multiple times down the stretch, but Nichols consistently answered with free throws or defensive stops to preserve the lead.
The Colonels (3-5, 0-2 CNE) return to action Saturday, hoping to capture their first CNE victory as they travel to Suffolk.
