Colonels Fall on Road at Suffolk
BOSTON, Mass. – Despite a strong first half and a dominant effort on the glass, the Curry College men's basketball team came up short on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 68–57 to Suffolk University at Smith Court. The Colonels matched the Rams through much of the 40 minutes, but a decisive Suffolk surge in the final minutes of the second half proved to be the difference.
Curry opened the afternoon with balanced scoring and gritty rebounding, highlighted by Manny Hidalgo, who delivered 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jeremiah Predin also played a central role, posting 12 points and 10 rebounds, giving the Colonels two players with double-doubles in the contest. Despite shooting 34% from the field in the first half, Curry's effort on the boards—particularly the offensive glass—helped them stay even at 27–27 heading into the break.
In the second half, Suffolk took a few small leads but Curry would not go away as a Nethaniel Clemente layup brought the game to within 1, 51-50 with 5:12 left in the game. However, just as Curry got close is when Suffolk responded with their biggest run of the day. Over the next three minutes the Rams got defensive stops and used timely buckets to fuel an 8-0 stint which put them up 59-50 with 2:55 remaining. At this point Curry had to resort to shooting threes and playing the foul game, which the Rams would fend off and capture the win.
Harrison Neil would lead the Rams in scoring off the bench with 18 points and went a perfect 6-of-6 at the free-throw line. Connor Strickland off the bench also delivered double figures as he sunk 5-for-5 field goals.
Defensively, Curry held Suffolk to just 34.5% shooting from the field, but the Rams compensated with timely jumpers and their ability to draw fouls in key stretches. Suffolk's depth also proved decisive, as their bench outscored Curry's 31–12.
With the loss, Curry drops to 3–6 overall and 0–3 in Conference of New England play. The Colonels will have one final road matchup at Salem State this Monday before taking a few weeks off for winter break.
