Colonels Use Strong Second Half to Power Past Colby Sawyer, 86-67
Milton, MA - Curry men's basketball delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, pulling away in the second half for an 86–67 victory over Colby-Sawyer at Katz Gymnasium. After a tightly contested opening 20 minutes, the Colonels erupted offensively after the break, outscoring the Chargers 54–34 to secure the decisive win.
The opening half featured back-and-forth play, with neither team able to establish consistent separation. The Chargers held a narrow 33–32 edge at halftime, setting the stage for a pivotal second-half response from the home team.
Curry opened the half with improved ball movement and defensive intensity, forcing turnovers and converting them into transition opportunities. Jeremiah Predin helped spark the offense with 15 of his game-high 25 points in the frame, and both JD Heneke and Manny Hidalgo each contributed a dozen more in the second twenty minutes. The Colonels would outscore the Chargers 19-5 on points of giveaways and held a 38-28 edge in the paint which manifested itself into a 14-0 burst in the middle of the period. Eventually, the Colonels had plenty of breathing room and secured their fourth victory of the season.
Predin who turned in a standout performance, shot an efficient 10-of-15, including a perfect 4-for-4 effort from deep. He also contributed nine rebounds, which was a team high. Manny Hidalgo followed with 18 points, using his quickness to penetrate the lane and finish over defenders, while JD Heneke added 16 points and three assists, going 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Curry's depth also played a key role in the win. Jake Bernardo provided a spark with eight points and a block, while Ebube Agbaji made his presence felt inside, scoring eight points, grabbing six rebounds, and recording two blocks in 22 minutes off the bench.
Next up, the Colonels will enjoy nearly a week off before hosting the Hawks of University of Hartford next Wednesday evening.
