Men's Hoops Hangs With #17 Endicott, Falls 84-76
Milton, MA - Curry men's basketball delivered a strong effort at Katz Gymnasium but fell just short in an 84–76 contest against #17 ranked Endicott. The Colonels battled throughout the night and kept the game within reach until the final minutes, but Endicott's efficiency and balanced scoring proved helped them avoid the upset.
Endicott came out firing, going up 9-2 early in the first. This was soon to be erased however as the Colonels bounced back with a 7-2 burst, pulling the game back to within a bucket. Midway through the period, Curry would capture its first lead of the night on a Tommy Mallinson three pointer, putting them up 19-17 at the time. From that point, they would trail by as many eight to end the half but still remained in the hunt at half 41-33.
Out of the locker room, it appeared that Endicott might pull away as they led by 14, about five minutes into the half. However, the Colonels would hang tough and chipped away at the Gulls advantage, pulling to within 5, 61-56, with 8:20 remaining. Even though the Gulls would hold a two possession lead for the remainder of the game, Curry drew within 4 points on numerous occassions and put pressure on Endicott to respond. After having a few chances to get within one score late, the well for Curry eventually ran dry and the Gulls were able to ice the game late at the line, remaining unbeaten in Conference of New England play (8-0 CNE).
The Colonels matched Endicott point for point in the second half, scoring 43 points after the break, and Isaiah Andino provided a major spark off the bench, pouring in a game-high 27 points on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting from the field while converting 8-of-11 at the free-throw line. Senior guard Tommy Mallinson was also effective as a shooter as he drained 4-of-7 threes and finished with 16. Jeremiah Predin came up just shy of another
Marcus Montagnino finished with a team-high 25 points for Endicott, while Jeff Hill added 20, combining to anchor the Gulls' scoring attack. Elijah Kinney also made a strong impact with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and six blocks.
