Hockey Suffers 6-5 Overtime Loss to Western New England College
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Chris Beaudoin (Enfield, CT) fired in the game-winner with 1:22 remaining in overtime as the Western New England College men’s hockey team defeated defending ECAC Northeast champion Curry 6-5 in the league opener for both squads Thursday night (Nov. 18) at Smead Arena.
The Golden Bears stayed unbeaten at 3-0-1 while the Colonels drop to 0-2-1.
Beaudoin finished with two goals and an assist as WNEC matched its entire victory total from a year ago.
WNEC twice battled back from two-goal deficits to tie the game at 4-4 on goals by freshman forward Chris Connors (Albany, NY) and Beaudoin at 12:33 of the third period.
Curry went ahead just 17 seconds later when junior forward Josh Kamrass (Norcross, GA) tallied his second goal of the contest.
Western New England College freshman forward Brian Prost (Parma, OH) netted the equalizier at 13:46.
Connors, junior forward Mike Kaselouskas (East Longmeadow, MA) and freshman forward Dan Monahan (Monroe, NJ) each had a goal and assist. Junior forward Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) added three assists while freshman defenseman Dave Tavelal (East Longmeadow, MA) contributed two assists.
Curry junior forward John Williams (Flourtown, PA) had three assists while junior forwards Christopher Atkinson (Sparta, NJ) and Steven Mohler (Yorba Linda, CA) each had two assists.
Sophomore goalie T.J. Fatse (Hampden, MA) compiled 26 saves in his first start of the season for the Golden Bears. Freshman Eric Sorenson (Rochester, NY) stopped 10 shots and six in the extra session to aid the win. Sophomore Robert Dawson (Woodbury, MN) turned away 24 shots for the Colonels.
Curry hosts Becker College on Saturday, November 20 at 4:35 p.m.
