HARRISVILLE, RI. - #13 Curry College Men's Ice Hockey defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Nichols College by a final score of 11-3 Friday evening at Levy Rink.
With the win, Curry moves forward with an overall record of 12-2 and 8-2 in the CCC.
The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup in Harrisville, RI saw the hosting Bison net the first goal of the evening just 50 seconds after puck-drop. The Colonels would answer back just over a minute later as Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) netted a shot past Nichols' Anthony Bonaldi. The opening goal for the Colonels was assisted by Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Nick Favaro (Vaughan, Ontario). A second goal for the Bison just over a minute later regained the lead for the hosts, Nichols now leading 2-1 with over 15 minutes remaining in the first period.
Curry's Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) found the back of the net five minutes into the first to tie the contest at two goals a piece, assisted by Mark Zhukov and Nick Favaro. Junior forward Nolan Dawson (Calgary, Alberta) pushed the Colonels to a 3-2 lead on a goal assisted by Makem Demers (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Kevin Pitts (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) with eight minutes left in the first period. Curry closed out the first period with a 4-2 lead following an Austin Whelan (Richmond Hill, Ontario) goal in the final minute of the period.
The Colonels saw four additional pucks in the back of the net through the second quarter, Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.), Makem Demers, Kevin Pitts, and Nolan Dawson each notched an additional goal, pushing the Colonels to an 8-3 lead heading into the third period.
The third quarter saw three more goals for the Colonels, Curry's Mark Zhukov notched two while Nick Favaro tallied one, capping off the 11-3 win on the road.
Curry was paced by Mark Zhukov who tallied seven points on two goals and five assists in the Commonwealth Coast Conference win.
Curry's graduate netminder Reid Cooper turned aside 18 of the 21 shots he faced in the Commonwealth Coast Conference win on the road.
Next up for the Colonels, they continue CCC action Saturday afternoon as they host Nichols College at the Canton Ice House at 3 PM.
