EAST BOSTON, Mass. - The 10th-ranked Curry College men's ice hockey team knocked off Suffolk University 6-2 Saturday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.
With the win, Curry extends its winning streak to 10 consecutive games and moves to 15-2-0 overall and 11-2-0 in the CCC.
Each team scored once in the opening 20 minutes. Suffolk scored first midway through the first, but Curry's Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) scored less than two minutes later on the power play to level the score at 1-1.
The Colonels found the back of the net three times in the second to go ahead 4-1. Senior Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) scored a pair of goals for the Colonels, while Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) added an insurance marker late in the period on the power play.
Early in the third, Kent scored a shorthanded goal to complete the hat trick. Zhukov's second of the night with just over four minutes remaining sealed the victory, and was Curry's third power play goal of the night.
Curry graduate netminder Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan), who assisted on Zhukov's second goal, made 25 stops between the pipes to earn his 13th win of the season.
Next up for the Colonels, they will open up a crucial home-and-home series with #4 Endicott at the Canton Ice House on Friday evening. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
