CANTON, Mass. - The sixth-ranked Curry College men's ice hockey team took care of the Wentworth Institute of Technology 6-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Friday night at the Canton Ice House.
With the victory, the Colonels improve to 17-4-1 overall on the season and 13-4-1 in the CCC.
Neither team scored until midway through the second period, when sophomore Eelis Laaksonen (Espoo, Finland) broke the ice for the Colonels. Laaksonen's seventh of the season was assisted by seniors Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Nick Favaro (Vaughan, Ontario).
Just 55 seconds later, Curry extended its lead to two on a goal from rookie Kevin Pitts (Pointe-Claire, Quebec), assisted by Makem Demers (Wilbraham, Mass.).
Curry scored four times in the third period to seal the victory. Graduate student Billy Roche (Braintree, Mass.) scored the first goal of the period just under five minutes in, before Pitts netted his second goal of the game midway through the frame.
Freshman Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.) potted an empty-netter with 1:33 to go from 150 feet, followed up 16 seconds later by the second goal of the season from senior Austan Bellefeuille (Framingham, Mass.) to close out the win.
In net, Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan) earned the shutout with a 23-save effort. It was his second shutout of the season.
Next up for the Colonels, they will take to the ice Saturday evening on the road at Western New England. Puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m.
