Norwich, VT - The Curry Men's Hockey team kicked off their season with purpose, as they defeated Norwich in their own house 6-1 on Saturday.
The Colonels wasted no time getting on the board, as Manny Cabral scored just three minutes into the game on a power play goal. Ten minutes later Gage Dill doubled the lead, giving the Colonels a 2-0 lead after one period. The Colonels continued to put pressure on the Cadets, and goals from Nolan McDonough and Grady Friedman made it 4-0. The Cadets got one back, but the Colonels scored right back just over a minute later on a Ryan Prewitt goal. The Colonels would add one more late in the third, the first collegiate goal for Mason Kesselring.
The Colonels led in shots (61-45) and shots on goal (32-25). The one area the Colonels didn't win, was in the faceoff circle, as the Cadets won 37 of the 77 faceoffs.
Making his first start for Curry, Thomas Heaney, a DI transfer from UConn, stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced, picking up the win.
Up Next - The Colonels will face UNE in a early pivotal CNE game next Friday at 7pm in Canton.
