Canton, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey team defeated Rivier on Saturday by a final score of 8-2. The Colonels are now 5-1-0, while the Raiders fall to 1-8-1.
The Colonels would strike first, as Jett Otwell found the back of the net just about nine minutes into the game. But the Raiders were game, and answered back just minutes later. The Colonels would take the lead again with about a minute left in the first period on a Shane Carr power play goal. The second period mirrored the first, as the Colonels sandwiched a Rivier goal with two of their own, one each for Killian Rowlee and Shane Carr. Through two periods the Colonels outshot the Raiders 47-8. The pressure of the Colonels finally broke open the game in the third, as the Colonels struck for four. Goals by Tyler Isherwood and Mason Kesselring were bookended by a pair of Rowlee goals.
With the hat trick, Rowlee now has three for his career, breaking a tie he sat in with six other players for the third most in program history. He only trails Caleb Wyse (1994-1998) and Mike Chiaradonna (1995-1999), both of whom had five.
Curry took 62 shots in the game tying for the seventh most in program history. The record is 76 set in a 12-0 win over Worcester State in 2006. The Colonels also dominated the faceoff circle, winning 45 of the 64 draws.
Goalie Thomas Heaney had a lonely game, not seeing a lot of action his way. he stopped nine of the 11 shots he faced.
Up Next - The Colonels will have a quick turnaround, as they host Trinity on Sunday at 7:30pm. That game originally was scheduled to take place at Trinity, but will now be played in Canton.
