Canton, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey team fell to #7 UNE on Saturday 4-2, as the two teams split the weekend series. The Nor'easters win the season series 2-1. The Colonels fall to 6-3-0 on the season, and 4-2-0 in CNE play, while UNE is 8-2-0 and 6-1-0.
The Colonels struck first, as Karim Gayfullin found a streaking Gage Dill who potted the puck, cuing the fans in the crowd to toss a plethora of stuffed animals on to the ice, all of which will be donated to charity. The Colonels held that 1-0 lead into the first intermission. The Colonels dominated the first, outshooting the Nor'easters 14-5.
But UNE came back fast and furious in the second, scoring twice in the first five minutes of the second period, and a third midway through the period to take a 3-1 lead. They had the momentum until Manny Cabral scored with four seconds left in the period, giving the Colonels some hope headed into the third period. But the Colonels were unable to find an equalizer, and an empty net goal made it 4-2.
The Colonels outshot UNE 40-27, and won the faceoff battle 36-28.
Goalie Cam Smith stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced.
Up Next - The Colonels will have a couple weeks off before resuming play on January 2nd against Skidmore.
