Canton, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey team took advantage of a young Roger Williams team on Friday, and defeated the Hawks 8-0. The Hawks, in the first year of their program's revival, played all freshman with the exception of two players. The two teams last played in the 1997-1998 season, and the all time series is now tied at 7-7.
The Colonels wasted no time, as Blake Rothstein scored less than four minutes into the game. That was followed by a Grady Friedman power play goal, and even strength goals from Manny Cabral and Gage Dill. The Colonels led 4-0 after one period, and it seemed to be that same score heading into the third. But Jett Otwell was able to score at the literal buzzer to make it 5-0 after two periods. The Colonels poured in on in the third, as Rothstein, Otwell, and Friedman each scored their second goals of the night.
The Colonels dominated play, outshooting the Hawks 59-13, and winning the faceoff battle 33-23.
In addition to the goal scorers, the Colonels had 14 assists, led by Ryan Prewitt and Nolan McDonough, who each had four and three helpers respectively.
Cam Smith had an easy night in net, stopping all 13 shots he faced for his first career shutout.
Up Next - The two teams will battle again on Saturday at RWU at 4pm.
