Milton, MA — The Curry College men's lacrosse team fell to Plymouth State University, 7–5, on Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field. With the loss, the Colonels move to 1–4 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 3–2 overall.
Curry opened the scoring early in the first quarter when Nicholas Cole found the back of the net on an unassisted goal at the 11:33 mark. Plymouth State answered with two goals later in the period to take a 2–1 lead after the opening 15 minutes.
The Colonels surged ahead in the second quarter with a three-goal run. Kai Johnson tied the game with an unassisted tally before setting up Cole for his second goal of the afternoon. Cole later added a man-up goal off an assist from Donovan Mawhinney, giving Curry a 4–2 advantage. Plymouth State responded with a late goal just before halftime to trim the deficit to 4–3.
After the Panthers tied the game in the third quarter, Cole completed his four-goal performance with another unassisted tally to give Curry a 5–4 lead heading into the final period.
Plymouth State however took control in the fourth quarter, scoring three unanswered goals — including two man-up tallies — to secure the 7–5 victory.
Cole led the Colonels offensively with four goals on the afternoon, while Johnson recorded a goal and an assist. Mawhinney also added an assist in the contest.
Defensively, Niko DeCola made 13 saves in goal for Curry while playing all 60 minutes. Both teams finished with 27 shots in the game, but Plymouth State capitalized on key opportunities late in the fourth quarter to pull away.
