Providence, RI - The Curry College men's lacrosse team fell to Johnson & Wales (RI), 10-7, in conference action Tuesday afternoon on the road.
Curry came out strong in the opening quarter, overcoming an early deficit to take control. After Johnson & Wales struck first, Nicholas Cole responded with back-to-back unassisted goals to give Curry a 2-1 lead. Following a brief equalizer, Blake Rothstein netted an unassisted tally before Jed Cappuccino finished off a feed from Max Ritt, helping the Colonels close the first quarter with a 4-2 advantage.
The Wildcats battled back in the second quarter, scoring twice to tie the game at 4-4. Cole answered in the closing seconds of the half with his third unassisted goal, sending Curry into the break with a 5-4 lead.
Johnson & Wales shifted the momentum in the third quarter, opening the half with two quick goals to take a 6-5 lead. Rothstein responded with his second goal of the game to even the score at 6-6, but the Wildcats added another late in the quarter to regain a one-goal edge heading into the final period.
In the fourth, Johnson & Wales extended its lead with two goals, including a man-up opportunity, to make it 9-6. Cole cut the deficit back to two with his fourth goal of the game, but another man-up tally by the Wildcats pushed the lead to 10-7. Despite a late push, Curry was unable to close the gap.
Cole led the Colonels offensively with four goals, while Rothstein added two goals. Cappuccino also found the back of the net, and Ritt recorded an assist.
Defensively, Niko DeCola made 11 saves in goal while also collecting four ground balls. Curry totaled 25 ground balls as a team, with strong efforts from several players across the field.
