MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team fell at the hands of the Anna Maria College AMCATS on Friday night at the Walter M. Katz field in Milton, Mass. With the win, the AMCATS kick off the year at 1-0-0 while the Colonels start at 0-1-0. The Colonels took an early 1-0 lead, but surrendered three unanswered goals, dropping the decision by a final score of 3-2.
Curry's night started in exciting fashion as Nolan Reimondo (Portland, Conn.) took a pass from Richard Silva (Pompano Beach, Fla.) and put it into the back of the net as just the first minute of the game expired. The match stayed quite for a short time, but in the 17th minute, Anna Maria put in the equalizer, as Hezekiah Adeyeye (Woonsocket, R.I.) booted a ball over the head of Colonels goalie Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.). Simon Berry (Londonderry, N.H.) earned the assist on the score. The AMCATS would score twice more in the first half, both on unassisted goals off the boot of Nick Lawrence (Attleboro, Mass.). In the 33rd minute, Lawrence followed a save and pounced on the rebound before capitalizing on a missed touch by a Curry defenseman in the 42nd minute.
The Colonels entered the second half trailing by two, but cut into the lead just 12 minutes into the stanza. Silva got back on the scoresheet, this time with his first goal of the season, off an assist from Nick Corso (Exeter, R.I.). The Colonels got close to tying the score on multiple occasions, taking 16 shots in the second half alone, but failed to knot the score. Tensions rose in the second frame, drawing four yellow cards, three of which were assessed to the visitors, but the AMCATS were able to keep their cool and close out the 3-2 victory.
Reimondo (seven shots, four on goal) and Silva (six shots, two on goal) led the offensive charge for Curry while Adeyeye (four shots, one on goal) and Lawrence (three shots, two on goal) led the way for the guests. DeMaio (0-1-0) collects his first four saves of the season while Anna Maria keeper Jeffrey Donahue tallied 10 saves along with his first win (1-0-0).
Anna Maria gets back on the field tomorrow for their home opener against Becker College. The non-conference action gets underway at 2:00 p.m. in Paxton, Mass. Curry will stay home to take on Lesley University at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 1.
