WESTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw against Regis College on Wednesday afternoon in Weston, Mass. Despite holding a halftime lead, the Colonels conceded a late equalizer, moving their record to 1-4-2 overall, while the Pride stand at 1-4-1.
The match began with fireworks, as Regis struck first in just the third minute. Reynaldo Bautista found the back of the net off a feed from Cade Bretton to give the Pride an early 1-0 advantage. Curry answered quickly, leveling the score in the ninth minute. Junior midfielder Ray Weinstein slotted home his first goal of the season, assisted by Kaden Puglia, to tie the contest at 1-1.
The Colonels continued to press late in the opening half and were rewarded in the 41st minute. Puglia, already with an assist, notched his team-leading fifth goal of the season off a setup from Chris Kourtelidis, putting Curry in front 2-1 at the break.
Regis controlled much of the second half, outshooting Curry 12-2 and generating consistent pressure on the Colonels' back line. Goalkeeper Justin Ritz stood tall in net, recording seven saves on 20 total shots faced. The Pride finally broke through in the 84th minute, when Sebastian Ortiz finished an unassisted strike to bring the match level at 2-2.
The closing minutes saw both teams battle hard but neither could find the deciding goal resulting in a draw.
Puglia led the Curry attack with two shots, both on target, while Weinstein added two more attempts, including his goal. Ritz's strong performance in net helped preserve the draw against the high-volume Pride offense.
Curry returns to Conference of New England (CNE) play on Saturday, September 20th, where they will host the Leopards of Wentworth at 11 AM on Walter M. Katz Field.
