EAST BOSTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team dropped a Conference of New England (CNE) matchup on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 4-0 to Suffolk University at James A. Sartori Stadium. With the result, the Colonels move to 2-6-2 overall (0-3-0 CNE), while the Rams improve to 5-2-2 (2-1-1 CNE).
Suffolk set the tone early, using sustained pressure to break through in the 18th minute. Diego Pierantozzi opened the scoring off a feed from Ford Lee, giving the Rams a 1-0 advantage. Suffolk doubled its lead in the 35th minute when Zach Vlachos finished a setup from Mohamed Mehaya and Matthew Belluardo. Just six minutes later, Suffolk struck again as Ryan Chamberlain converted with help from Vlachos and Mehaya to make it 3-0 heading into halftime.
The Rams added some insurance in the 49th minute, as Belluardo tallied his first goal of the season on an unassisted effort, pushing the lead to 4-0. Suffolk's balanced attack featured 13 different players recording shots, highlighted by Pierantozzi, Vlachos, and Belluardo each playing a direct role in the scoring column.
Curry worked hard to create chances of their own, recording 12 total shots with seven on target. Freshman Kaden Puglia led the offensive effort with four shots, including three on frame, while veterans Aidan Auclair, Ray Weinstein, Ryan Koster, and Jose Comella each forced Suffolk goalkeeper Nathan Harlow into saves. Despite pressure from Curry's attack, they didn't see the ball find the net, as Harlow pitched the shutout.
In net for Curry, goalkeeper Justin Ritz made six saves over nearly 78 minutes of action, while starter Ryan McGourty added three early stops to keep the Colonels within reach in the first half. The Colonels also held their own on set pieces, earning five corners.
Curry will look to regroup on Tuesday September 30th, as they are set to host visitors Mass. Maritime on Walter M. Katz Field at 7 PM.
