Milton, MA - The Curry Men's Volleyball team swept a tri-match on Saturday with Adrian and Rivier, moving to 2-1 on the season.
Match One vs Adrian
The Colonels defeated Adrian in the first match 25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21 to pick up their first win of the season. They raced out to an early 7-2 lead, and while the Bulldogs went on a 7-1 run of their own, the Colonels never gave up the lead, and ended the set on a 7-1 run of their own to take it 25-17.
After dropping the second set, the Colonels and Bulldogs played a back and forth third set, but a late 5-0 run gave the Colonels control before they took it 25-19.
The Bulldogs answered with an early 5-1 lead in the fourth, but the Colonels slowly worked their way back. With things tied at 18, the Colonels went on a crucial 4-0 run, and took the set 25-21 to take the match.
Chris Milfort and Michael Swanigan split the offense for the Colonels, getting 13 and 11 digs each. Jayden Garcia and Brock Beggs each had six to contribute. Nyko Whitaker recorded a double-double with 31 set assists and 10 digs. Nicholas Watson led the team with 11 digs.
Match Two vs Rivier
The Colonels then took on Rivier, and defeated them 25-22, 25-19, 30-28.
Trailing 12-11 in the first set, the Colonels used a 6-0 run to grab momentum, which they rode to a 25-22 set lead. The second set saw the Colonels grab an early 5-1 lead, and never looked back, with their lead never falling below two. The third set seemed to be going the Colonels' way, as they held an 18-13 lead. But the Raiders fought back, and tied the game at 21. The two teams then went back and forth to 28 all, where the Colonels scored the final two points to take it 30-28.
It was once again Milfort and Swanigan, with 21 and 13 digs respectively. Whitaker had 34 set assists, while Braden Alpert recorded 10 digs.
Up Next - The Colonels will travel to Lasell on Friday for a 7pm match.
