Annandale-on-Hudson, NY - The Curry Men's Volleyball team played a pair of five set matches on Saturday, losing to Bard, and then bouncing back to beat Gallaudet. The Colonels are now 9-9 on the season.
Match One vs Bard
The first match of the tri-match saw the Colonels take on the hosts Bard. Bard took the first two sets, but the Colonels would bounce back to dominate the third, and cruise in the fourth set, setting up a fifth and final set. The Colonels scored the first point of the deciding set, but Bard controlled the rest of the set, winning it, and winning the match 25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 20-25, 15-11.
The Colonels had a total of 57 kills, with 41 coming from Chris Milfort (25) and Nicholas Watson (16). Setting them up most of the time was Nyko Whitaker, as he had 43 assists. Three players had double-digit digs, led by Brock Beggs (14). Behind him was Braden Alpert (12) and Milfort (11).
Match Two vs Gallaudet
After playing a five set match the night before, and then another earlier in the day, the Colonels had to dig deep against Gallaudet, and they did. The two teams traded sets, with the Colonels winning the first and third, and Gallaudet winning the second and fourth sets, sending things to a fifth set, the Colonels third in two days. After the two teams went back and forth a little bit, the Colonels began to pull away with a 6-2 run, going up 12-8, before winning the set 15-11, and the match 25-23, 22-25, 25-15, 13-25, 15-11.
It was a very balanced attack for the Colonels, with all their kills coming from six players, all of which had at least seven. This was led by Nicholas Watson's 10 kills. Whitaker was once again in the middle, collecting 34 set assists. Braden Alpert led the team with 16 digs, just ahead of Chris Milfort's 14 and Brock Beggs' 13. Whitaker nearly had a triple-double with nine digs and seven kills.
Up Next - The Colonels will host a tri-match next Saturday with Vermont State Johnson and Elmira, starting at 11am.
