Marywood
Clermont, FL - The Curry Softball split their doubleheader on Tuesday, falling to Juniata by a final score of 11-0, in five innings. The Colonels bounced back immediately though, beating Marywood 7-6 in nine innings. The Colonels are now 3-3 on the season.
Game One vs Juniata
The Eagles loaded the bases after just five pitches into the game, and they did not look back, scoring eight runs in the first inning. They would add two in the third, and another in the fifth, winning 11-0.
The Colonels had two hits in the game, a leadoof double by Lizzy Helmar in the third, and a single by Skylar Colburn in the fourth.
Tara Goldman was handed the loss on the mound, allowing eight earned runs in 0.2 innings pitched.
Game Two vs Marywood
The Pacers scored two in the first inning, but the Colonels would get one back in third on a Karlie Pontes single. They then tied things up in the fifth on another Pontes single. Things would remain tied through seven innings, and the teams went to extra innings. That is when things got interesting.
In the eighth inning the Colonels ran into two outs at home plate, but then scored three runs with two outs. Skylar Colburn and Olivia Roy knocked those runs in with a pair of singles. But the Pacers responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, tying things up again. In the ninth, the Colonels scored on a Cailene Dupras sacrifice fly to make it 6-5. Then a weird play occurred, as Tara Goldman reached on an error by the third basemen. Lizzy Helmar advanced to third on the play, but then scored after the Pacers weren't paying attention. Goldman, who advanced to third during that, then ran home as the catcher threw the ball back to the pitcher, and seemingly scored another run on a little league home run. But then the umpires ruled that time had been called, putting Goldman back at 3rd. The Colonels were unable to get her across the plate, and led 7-5 headed into the bottom half of the inning. The Pacers scored one run on a double, but ended the game on a line out to second basemen Kailey Collins-Fiore, who tossed the ball to second for the double play.
After a shaky first inning, Kassidy Lobb settled down in the circle, going eight innings, allowing 13 hits, and just two earned runs, while striking out four, and walking none. She picked up the win, while Isabella Monsanto pitched the ninth for a save.
Up Next - After an off day on Wednesday, the Colonels will return to play in Florida on Thursday, taking on Haverford and RIC.
