Softball Walks Off RWU in the Rain
Milton, MA - The Curry softball team improved to 7-10 on the season with an 8-7 walk off win over Roger Williams on Wednesday. The win came in the eighth inning, and moves the Colonels to 4-0 in extra inning games this season. The Colonels are now 2-3 in CNE play, while the Hawks are 10-6 on the season and 2-1 in CNE play.
Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to field conditions, and will be made up at a later date.
The lone game of the day saw Roger Williams score two runs in the second to take an early lead. But as they have done all year, this Curry softball team fought back, and scored four runs in the third, two on a Kailey Collins-Fiore sacrifice bunt, one of which came in on an error, and two more on a Ana Tsonis double to left field. The Hawks tied things up with runs in the fifth and sixth, but the Colonels immediately retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth, on a Lindsey DesRoberts RBI double. Not to be outdone, RWU led the seventh off with a HR, tying the game at five. After the Hawks scored two in the top half of the inning, and the rain continued to pick up, the Colonels scored their first run of the 8th on a Ana Tsonis single. A bases loaded walk by Skylar Colburn tied things up at seven, and then it was DesRoberts with another big hit, this time a walk off single through the left side of the infield.
The Colonels had seven hits, with two each from Tsonis and DesRoberts. Tsonis had three RBI, while DesRoberts had the two.
Kassidy Lobb pitched the eighth for the Colonels and picked up her second win of the season.
Up Next - The Colonels will look to keep their winning ways up when they take on Regis at home on Friday at 2pm.
