Women's Basketball Takes Curry Tip-Off Title With 60-53 Win Over St. Joseph's
MILTON, Mass. – Second-day results from the 2010 Curry College Women’s Basketball Tip-Off Tournament:
Championship Game

The host Colonels captured the title of their inaugural Tip-Off Tournament and improved to 4-0 on the season. The runner-up Monks fell to 1-2.
Curry took its biggest lead of the first half (25-18) with 7:57 remaining, after a layup by senior forward Danyel Cousins (Brunswick, ME). Saint Joseph’s battled back and took the lead (31-27) after a 9-1 run that began with a layup by junior center Ashley Geel (St. George, ME) and was capped off with a layup by freshman forward Lindsay Moore (Somersworth, NH).
The Colonels scored the first basket of the second period after a layup by senior forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, MA) to give them a lead (35-33) that they would maintain throughout the game. Curry’s biggest lead of the game (56-45) came after a layup by Cousins with 7:37 remaining in regulation.
Cousins led the Colonels with a game-high 16 points. Sophomore forward Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, MA) chipped in with 14. Curry was led on the glass by Robinson, with a game-high nine boards.
The Monks were led by Geel with 15 points. Geel and junior forward Allison Parent (Camden, ME) led Saint Joseph’s with six rebounds apiece.
Consolation Game
UMass Dartmouth 74, Mount Ida 62
The Corsairs (1-2) picked up their first win of the season and kept the Mustangs (0-3) winless.
UMass Dartmouth began the game with a 7-0 run that would give them a lead they would never relinquish. The run started with a made free throw by junior guard Stephanie Houtman (New Bedford, MA) and was capped off with a layup by freshman forward Erika Bornemann (Canton, MA). The Corsairs’ biggest lead of the first half came with one second remaining, after a layup by freshman forward Tahirah Gibson (Norwood, MA), giving UMass Dartmouth a 43-29 edge at intermission.
In the second period, the Corsairs took their biggest lead of the game (59-33) with 10:50 remaining in regulation after a layup by junior guard Jessica Underwood (Dorchester, MA). Mount Ida went on a 7-0 run that spanned from 2:35 left in the second frame to 0:36 remaining in regulation, to cut the deficit to nine (71-62), but could pull no closer.
Bornemann led Umass Dartmouth with a game-high 21 points. Sophomore forward Colleen Moriarty (Canton, MA) added 19 and Houtmann chipped in with 14. Bornemann racked up a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Mustangs were led by junior guard Shannon Wood (Gorham, ME) with 17 points. Junior guard Jeileen Rivera contributed 11. Junior center Katie Morvan (Northbridge, MA) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
