Women's Basketball Drops Home CNE Matchup vs Nichols
MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's basketball team fell 54–35 to Nichols College on Tuesday night at Katz Gymnasium, as shooting struggles and turnovers proved too much to overcome despite strong efforts on the glass and at the free throw line.
Curry battled throughout the opening quarter, as neither team was able to put it together offensively. Lauren Morse helped pace the Colonels offense early as she chipped in five of her six points in the opening period. Kasey Reeves, who notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, also set the tone with her activity around the rim, while Sophie Hilbrunner added nine boards and 10 points to provide a steady interior presence. Still, Nichols held an 8–6 lead after one, foreshadowing the defensive battle that would unfold.
In the second quarter, Nichols began to find its rhythm offensively, outscoring Curry 15–10 behind strong guard play from Alyvia Smith and Adriana Romano, who combined for 18 first-half points. Curry continued to struggle from the floor, shooting just 22.9 percent for the game. Lauren Dunn contributed six rebounds and a pair of free throws for the Colonels but turnovers also proved to be critical as the Colonels tallied 32 giveaways in the contest.
Trailing 23–16 at halftime, the Colonels came out with energy in the third quarter, led by ball pressure from Samantha Conti, who tallied a team-high six steals. Curry scored 10 points in the period but struggled to slow a balanced Nichols attack, which pulled ahead 40–26 entering the final frame.
Nichols continued to control the pace in the fourth quarter, with Isabella Lopez-Marin providing a spark off the bench with nine points. Curry made its push at the free-throw line—finishing 11-of-13—but could not erase the deficit as the Bison's defensive pressure forced the Colonels into too many miscues.
Despite the loss, Curry won the rebounding battle 41–40 and held Nichols to 34.3 percent shooting, showcasing defensive grit that bodes well moving forward.
The Colonels return to action later this week as they continue Conference of New England (CNE) play at Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon.
