Colonels Drop First Game of Daytona Beach Trip, 70-64
Daytona Beach, FL - In a game where Curry held a double-digit lead at halftime, the Colonels ultimately fell short in a 70-64 defeat against Framingham State in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Out of the gate, both teams held narrow leads throughout the first ten minutes. It was the Colonels however that finished the first frame strong with a 7-0 spurt in the final two minutes, capitalizing on three consecutive Rams turnovers to secure a 19-15 lead heading into the second period.
In the second, the Colonels would see their lead expand as after Framingham drew back to within a point (24-23), Curry responded with 11 unanswered. This was largely fueled by the hot shooting of Lauren Dunn who would finish with a team-high 17 points. One final bucket from Lauren Morse pushed the lead to a dozen for the Colonels who took control 37-25 at the break.
Coming out of the locker room, Framingham State would capture the momentum as they used a run of their own to nearly erase the Colonel lead. An 11-2 run across five minutes of game time would bring the Rams to within 3 points halfway through the third. At the end of the quarter Curry held a 47-43 edge.
Then in the fourth, the Rams would use another lengthy run to catapult themselves in front for good as they started the fourth on a 10-2 burst which put them in front 53-49. Curry would pull back to within a point but Framingham kept the momentum as they hit free throws and clutch buckets to seal the victory.
Kasey Reeves (14), Lauren Morse (14), and Ella Palanza (11) all joined Dunn in double-figures with Palanza posting a game-high 9 rebounds.
Up next the Colonels will look to regroup with another contest Tuesday afternoon facing off against Haverford (PA).
