Colonels Fall to Haverford, 67-54 In Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, FL – The Curry College women's basketball team battled through it's second game in as many days, but came up short in its' matchup against Haverford College, falling 67–54 Tuesday afternoon at the Ocean Center.
Curry matched Haverford stride for stride in the opening quarter, as both teams scored 18 points. The Colonels leaned on strong play from Kasey Reeves and Ella Palanza, who combined for early baskets and controlled the glass. Reeves set the tone on both ends of the floor, finishing the game with 11 points, 11 rebounds, three steals, and a block, while Palanza added 11 points and nine rebounds, giving Curry a steady presence in the paint.
The second quarter proved to be the turning point, as Curry struggled to find an offensive rhythm. Haverford limited the Colonels to just six points in the period, forcing misses and capitalizing on turnovers. Despite Curry's defensive effort, the Fords took advantage of second-chance opportunities and went into halftime with a 30–24 lead.
Curry responded after the break, cutting into the deficit with an 11-point third quarter. Lauren Morse provided a spark off the bench, knocking down two three-pointers and finishing with eight points, while Olivia Roy logged crucial bench minutes contributing five points, four rebounds, and two steals.
In the fourth quarter, Haverford pulled away by outscoring Curry 23–19, led by Caroline Orza, who poured in a game-high 25 points, and Audrey Jakway, who posted a double-double with 16 points and 19 rebounds. The Fords' ability to control the boards and convert at the free-throw line proved critical down the stretch.
Curry finished the game with 39 rebounds and forced eight steals, but shot 30.8 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point range, which made overcoming the late deficit difficult. Despite the loss, the Colonels showcased strong efforts in both of their Florida games, and will return home to face CNE opponent Endicott on Saturday.
