Women's Basketball Falls to Roger Williams
Milton, MA - Curry women's basketball was challenged at home by Roger Williams, falling 58–29 in Conference of New England (CNE) play.
The Colonels opened the game with energy on the defensive end and stayed close early, trailing just 14–10 after the first quarter. Curry generated several quality looks and competed on the glass, but struggled to convert consistently as Roger Williams gradually found its offensive rhythm. The Hawks extended their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring Curry 15–5 to take a 29–15 lead into halftime.
Roger Williams continued to build momentum after the break and posted 16 points in the third quarter, while limiting Curry to eight, creating separation heading into the final period. Curry continued to battle defensively, but Roger Williams closed the game with a 13–6 fourth quarter securing the win.
Kasey Reeves led Curry with a strong all-around performance, finishing with a game-high 14 points while adding four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Samantha Conti provided a spark from the perimeter, knocking down two three-pointers and contributing six points along with six rebounds and two steals. Audrey Hernandez added her first two collegiate points, along with two steals off the bench, while Ella Palanza chipped in five rebounds and a block.
Curry worked hard defensively, forcing 19 turnovers and recording 11 steals, but offensive challenges proved difficult to overcome. The Colonels shot 20.9 percent from the field and were held to 2-of-18 shooting from beyond the arc. Free-throw opportunities were also limited, as Curry converted 9-of-18 attempts from the line.
Roger Williams' Sakoya Sweeney's 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench led the way for the Hawks. Ava Azzaro also was in double-figures for Roger Williams with 10.
The lady Colonels will next play on Saturday at home, hosting the Goats of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) at 3 PM.
