Colonels Fall to Strong Johnson & Wales Team, 72-54
Milton, MA - Curry College women's basketball battled throughout the afternoon but could not overcome a strong fourth-quarter surge from Johnson & Wales (RI), falling 72–54 at Katz Gymnasium. The Colonels stayed within striking distance for three quarters before the Wildcats pulled away late.
Curry opened the game with energy on both ends of the floor, matching Johnson & Wales nearly shot for shot in the first quarter. Kasey Reeves and Jess LaFlamme provided an early spark, knocking down all three of Curry's three point attempts in the period. The teams continued to be evenly matched in the second, before a 6-0 run ended the half for the Wildcats, who took a slim 35–31 advantage into halftime.
The Colonels came out of the break determined to close the gap, outscoring the Wildcats 13–12 in the third quarter. LaFlamme gave Curry a lift off the bench, connecting on three three-pointers and finishing with 11 points to provide key perimeter scoring. Lauren Dunn was aggressive getting to the line and added 11 points, while Samantha Conti contributed on the glass and as a distributor to help keep Curry within reach entering the final period.
Johnson & Wales seized control in the fourth quarter, using a 25-point frame to create separation. Unfortuately, Curry couldn't match the scoring output and would fall by a final score of 72-54.
Brianne Foley led the way, finishing with a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds. Isabella Suero and Mya Jiminez each also added 10 points for the Wildcats.
For Curry, Dunn and LaFlamme would each put in 11, and Reeves chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. Sophie Hilbrunner made her presence felt defensively with three blocks. Despite the final result, the Colonels were a more efficient team from deep (46.2%) to the Wildcats (28.6%).
