CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's ice hockey team fell to Worcester State University 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday night in non-conference action at the Canton Ice House.
With the defeat, Curry falls to 3-3-2 overall on the season.
Worcester State opened the scoring 5:46 into the second period on a power play goal from Claire Conway. The Colonels responded less than three minutes later however when sophomore Danielle Stein (Plainview, N.Y.) notched an unassisted shorthanded goal at the 8:42 mark to level the score at 1-1.
The tied score held up through the remainder of regulation, and nearly stood for the balance of the contest, but Conway dangled around a Colonel and banked a shot in off the post with 8.9 seconds left in the extra session to lift Worcester State to the win.
Curry freshman netminder Sarah Kerr (Cochrane, Alberta) took the loss between the pipes despite a strong performance. She made 40 saves in her second collegiate start, including two in overtime.
Next up for the Colonels, they will be back in action on Friday, December 2 for a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup against Salve Regina University at the Canton Ice House. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
