Colonels Hold Back Bison

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College Women's Lacrosse defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Nichols College 9-8 on Katz Field Wednesday evening.
With the win, Curry moves forward with an overall record of 4-8 and 1-4 in the CCC.
Curry struck first in the conference matchup on home turf, junior attacker Chloe Chevrier (West Suffield, Conn.) netting an unassisted shot to put the Colonels up one midway through the first quarter. Curry's Ellie Hardman (Hanover, Mass.) pushed the Colonels to a 2-0 lead on a free position shot with just over four minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Nichols' Sam Ahaesy tallied one goal for the visiting Bison just 30 seconds after Curry's second to send the matchup into the second quarter with the Colonels holding a 2-1 lead.
The visiting Bison notched the opening goal of the second quarter, tying the contest at two goals a piece.
Curry's Chloe Chevrier re-gained the lead for the Colonels, notching her second goal on the day, assisted by Grayson Goolgasion (Johnston, R.I.). Goolgasian tallied a goal four minutes later, pushing the Colonels to a 4-2 lead as they headed into the halftime break.
Curry's offense continued to dominate following the halftime break, Natalie Keenan (Haverhill, Mass.) and Chloe Chevrier pushing Curry to a 6-2 lead.
The Bison would score three unanswered following Chevrier's goal, closing in on the Colonels' lead, Nichols now trailing 6-5.
Curry's junior attacker Chloe Chevrier found the back of the net for a fourth time, increasing the Colonels' lead to 7-5 with 2:34 remaining in the third quarter.
Nichols College's Makala Dube and Sarah King notched two additional goals to tie the CCC matchup at 7-7 as the two sides headed into the fourth quarter.
Curry's Ellie Hardman and Grayson Goolgasian notched a goal each in the fourth quarter, bringing the Colonels' total to nine. A solid defensive effort from the Colonels would hold the visiting Bison to just one additional goal, defeating Nichols College 9-8.
Curry sophomore netminder Vivi Helquist (Proctor, Minn.) notched ten saves in the conference win at home.
The Colonels return to the field on Saturday as they host CCC opponent Salve Regina at 2 PM.
