Coach Kelsey Regan Travels to Uganda for Kids Lacrosse Africa Clinic
Jinja, Uganda - Earlier this month Curry Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Kelsey Regan had the opportunity to travel to Uganda with the Kids Lacrosse Africa group to help spread the game of lacrosse.
Coach Regan spent four days with the Kids Lacrosse Africa group, working with over 150 players with 14 other volunteer coaches. As part of the trip she helped run two days worth of clinics, instructing the players on how to improve the game of lacrosse. Leading high quality drills and demonstrating a stronger technical side of lacrosse. Additionally, she helped teach first-time players the fundamentals of the game including cradling, catching, passing and shooting. The clinic ended with a tournament day with each player participating in a 30-minute competitive game.
As part of the trip, Coach Regan learned about the community and the players involved in the KLA group. She visited three local schools, as well as three of the players homes, learning about their culture.
Coach Regan donated lacross uniforms, and pinnies to the KLA organization, part of the $50,000 worth of equipment that was donated through the trip.
Quote from Coach Kelsey:
Working with the Kids Lacrosse Africa Organization was nothing short of life-changing. The effort, dedication and determination to grow the sport of lacrosse in the Jinja community, is really inspirational. I am very proud of the work we did while we were in Uganda and am thankful that our group was able to donate over $50,000+ worth of uniforms, equipment, and other necessities. The efforts of Kids Lacrosse Africa go so much further than the field. The children involved use KLA as an outlet to get together socially, receive community support, share responsibilities, and grow as players and people. I am grateful to our Athletic Department for allowing CCWLAX to donate some of our gently used Curry College Womens Lacrosse uniforms / pinnies. It was amazing to see the players running around in their Curry Purple pinnies throughout the time of the clinic. I am sure they will be put to good use by the KLA group!
