Women's Tennis Rolls Past Newbury College 9-0
MILTON, Mass. - Curry College rolled past Newbury College by the score of 9-0 in women’s tennis action Friday afternoon in Milton.
The host Colonels swept all three doubles matches. Curry’s Lauren Chuha and Devin Curley defeated the Nighthawks’ Stephanie Valentine and Kristen Conners, 8-5, at #1; Megan Mulrooney and Elizabeth Zarkades knocked off Jennifer Swafford and Alexandra Derderian 8-1, at #2; and Kathleen Rush and Lauren Maloney took care of Julie Macleod and Stephanie Ruffin, 8-4, at #3.
Curry was dominant in singles as well, earning wins from Mulrooney at #1, Maloney at #2, Chuha at #3, Rush at #4, Curley at #5 and Zarkades at #6. Mulrooney defeated Swafford, 6-0, 6-0; Maloney defeated Connors, 6-4, 6-1; Chuha defeated Valentine, 6-3, 6-1; Rush defeated Derderian, 7-6, 7-5, 6-1; Curley defeated Macleod, 6-3, 6-2; and Zarkades defeated Ruffin, 6-1, 6-2.
The win improves Curry’s record to 8-6. The loss drops Newbury to 4-8 overall. Curry returns to action tomorrow, when it travels to TCCC foe Gordon College at 11:00 a.m. The Nighthawks’ host Becker College in a 12:00 p.m. match on Saturday.
