SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Eight different institutions from The Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2010 All-TCCC Women’s Tennis Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, four major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were also selected. Voting for the All-TCCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among TCCC women’s tennis coaches.
Murray, in his third season at Curry, has guided the Colonels to uncharted height in 2010. Under his leadership, Curry has posted a 9-6 overall record, the most victories by a Colonel squad since 2003. Curry’s 6-5 mark in TCCC play is a program-best, as is the team’s number six seed in the conference tournament. These accomplishments come on the heels of being chosen to finish ninth in the league’s annual preseason poll of head coaches. The Colonels’ success comes with a roster which includes one senior, one junior, one sophomore and six freshmen.
Joining Dyakiv on the first team for singles were Christina Barbarisi (Western New England), Kate Cioffi (Endicott), Samantha Curran (Roger Williams), Tracy Klein (Roger Williams), Megan Mulrooney (Curry) and Erin Phillips (Salve Regina).
First team doubles selections included the Salve Regina team of Phillips and Ana Gwozdz, Roger Williams’ Curran and Leah Ribchinsky, as well as Colby-Sawyer’s team of Claire Toffey and Elizabeth Lincoln.
Joining Lincoln on the second team for singles were Maria Balabanova (Nichols), Nikki DeSimone (Western New England), Caitlin Hughes (Western New England), Emily Mongello (Curry) and Katherine Stephens (Gordon).

Dyakiv, a freshman from Amsterdam, N.Y., has paid immediate dividends in her inaugural season at Nichols College. She enters the TCCC Championship sporting a perfect 13-0 record in play this fall, including an 11-0 mark against TCCC opponents. All of her victories have come at the #1 position in the lineup. In doubles competition, Dyakiv has been impressive as well. She and partner Maria Balabanova enter TCCC tournament play with a 12-1 overall record, including an unblemished 11-0 mark in conference-only competition.
Jones, a senior graphic design major who sports a 3.70 grade-point average is a star both on and off the court. In addition to compiling a 1-0 mark at the #6 singles position and a 5-2 record across #2 and #3 doubles with partner Jessica Moore, the 2010-11 team captain is also a three-time All-TCCC Academic Team member. She led the Seahawks to an overall 3.44 cumulative grade point average last spring and won first place and best in show in the BOSS (Best of Salve Students) awards for her graphic design entry. Jones is also an American Institute for Graphic Arts (AIGA) Rhode Island chapter member, president of the school’s art guild, American Marketing Association (AMA) Salve Regina chapter – vice president graphic design, and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Chi Alpha Sigma (student-athlete honor society).
