MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's tennis team suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat to Eastern Nazarene Thursday afternoon on the Trent J. Scott Tennis Courts.
With the defeat, Curry closes out its season with an overall record of 1-12 and 1-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
In doubles play, Eastern Nazarene jumped out to a 2-1 lead by winning at the second and third flights, but Curry's tandem of Sasha Borkov (Newton, Mass.) and Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.) secured a point for the hosts, winning 8-3.
Junior Sasha Borkov pulled the match even once singles play began, winning 6-0, 6-2 in the first singles slot. Senior Sophia Wiernusz also marked a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Jenna Schlosser of Eastern Nazarene. Curry's Samantha Ferrara (Brewster, N.Y.) claimed the last point for the Colonels, winning her first set 6-4, losing the second set 4-6, and taking the fifth singles on an 11-9 tiebreaker.
The loss on the Trent J. Scott Tennis Courts concludes the Colonels' fall schedule with a final record of 1-12 overall and 1-6 in the CCC.
