Women's Tennis Falls to Suffolk in Nailbiter
The Curry College women's tennis team suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat to Suffolk University on Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Belmont Hill School.
BELMONT, Mass. - The Curry College women's tennis team suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat to Suffolk University on Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Belmont Hill School.
With the defeat, Curry moves to 0-6 overall on the season and 0-3 in CCC action.
Suffolk won the first two doubles matches to take an early 2-0 advantage, but Curry salvaged a point with a tiebreak 8-7 (7-2)win at first doubles from senior Sasha Borkov (Newton, Mass.) and junior Serena Wilson (Windsor, Conn.).
The Colonels took the lead at 4-3 after capturing the three of the first four singles matches. Suffolk went ahead 3-1 with a win at fifth, but a 6-4, 6-2 win from Borkov at first singles, a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 win at second singles by Wilson, and a win by retirement at fourth singles from junior Grace Coopee (Hampden, Mass.) saw the visitors pull ahead. The hosts prevailed at third and sixth singles however to clinch the conference victory.
Curry will return to the courts on Thursday with a non-league matchup at home against Rhode Island College. First serves in doubles play are slated for 3:30 p.m.
