Women's Volleyball Overcomes First Set to Take Down Falcons
Milton, MA - The Curry Women's Volleyball team took down ALbertus Magnus in four sets on Thursday, winning 13-25, 25-18, 25-19, 26-24. The Colonels are now 6-4 all-time against the Falcons.
After an uninspiring first set, the Colonels looked to turn things around in the second, and they did just that. After hitting -.194 in the first set, the Colonels would hit at least .200 in every set the rest of the match, including .216 in the second. They went up 4-0, but the Falcons would come back, and neither team could really build a big league. With things tied at 16, the Colonels went on a 9-2 run to close out the set. The third set was all Colonels from the beginning, as they built a 15-7 lead. The Falcons would come back a little, but were unable to really threaten anything. The fourth set was a different story, as the Falcons led early 8-4. But the Colonels would fight back and take an 11-10 lead. The teams would trade points for a little bit, but a 6-0 run from the Colonels gave them a 21-18 lead. But the two teams would trade three, three-point runs, leading to the set being all tied up at 24. But kills from Lauryn Gedeon and Meghan Abbott put away the set and match for the Colonels.
Two Colonels were in double-digits for kills, led by Meghan Abbott's 11, just ahead of Morgan Kramer's 10. Ciara Crayton, Kyla Martin, and Lauryn Gedeon all contributed with 7.6.and 5 respectively. As has been the case this season, the star of the match was Jasmyne Fillippini, as she posted a double-double with team highs in set assists (32) and digs (11). She also contributed four kills, and two blocks.
Up next - The Colonels will next hit the court on Saturday when they travel to Endicott.
