Gordon Sweeps Curry in Season Finale
WENHAM, Mass. – The Curry College women's volleyball team wrapped up its 2025 season on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets to Gordon College (25–10, 25–9, 25–10) at the Bennett Athletic Center. Despite battling throughout, the Colonels couldn't slow down a hot-hitting Gordon squad that closed its regular season at 21–8 overall and 7–3 in Conference of New England (CNE) play.
Curry (5–20, 0–10 CNE) showed stretches of strong play but was ultimately outmatched by a Gordon attack that hit an impressive .446 as a team. The Fighting Scots posted double-digit kills in every set, including a dominant .500 hitting percentage in the third frame to seal the sweep.
Offensively, Kyla Martin led the way for Curry with six kills, while Meghan Abbott added three and Lauryn Gedeon and Emma Hobart chipped in two apiece. Setter Jasmyne Fillippini paced the Colonels' offense with 11 assists and contributed two digs defensively. Faith Edgehille anchored the back row with a team-high eight digs, while Sonja Matheson and Abbott each added four. With her 11 assists in the match, Fillippini cemented herself in Colonels history as she ends the season with 334 set assists putting her 9th all-time for sets in a season.
The Colonels' best stretch came in the third set, where they tallied seven kills and hit .111—by far their strongest efficiency of the day. Martin and Gedeon sparked a small rally midway through the set, but Gordon's balanced offense proved too much to overcome.
For the Fighting Scots, Annie Zimmerman led the charge with six kills, four service aces, and 10.5 total points, while Allison Trogdon and Teagan Brideweser each notched seven kills. Gordon also dominated at the service line, totaling 12 aces on the afternoon and holding Curry to a .013 team hitting percentage.
Another notable career milestone on the season for the Colonels was obtained by outside hitter, Sonja Matheson, who finishes her career at Curry with 643 digs, putting her in possession of 8th all-time. During her four years (2021-2025), she also played in the 5th most matches in Curry women's volleyball history (99) and had 231 kills, and career total of 291.5 points.
Although the loss concludes the season for the Colonels, the season marked improvement from previous years as they boasted their highest win total since the 2021-22 campaign. The Colonels will look to build on their foundation heading into the 2026 tilt, returning a solid core ready to compete in a challenging CNE conference.
