Football Beats Husson For First Time in Program History
Bangor, ME - For the first time in program history, the Curry Football team defeated Husson, beating the Eagles 40-21. Prior to Saturday, the Eagles had won all five previous matchups. The Colonels are now 7-1 on the season, nd 5-0 in CNE play.
It was a defensive affair early, as the lone score in the first quarter came by way of a 37-yard FG by Omar Aboutoui. The Colonels then outscored the Eagles 14-7 in the second quarter, with TDs from Montie Quinn and Wesley Williams. This gave the Colonels a 17-7 lead at the break.
The Eagles made things interesting in the second half, even having a chance to take the lead at one point. But the Colonels defense held strong, and the offense got going afterwards, with the Colonels eventually pulling away and winning 40-21.
The highlights came from the usual suspects for the Colonels, as Montie Quinn had 245 yards on 29 carries, scoring three touchdowns, including one from 71-yards out. He also had three catches, totaling 27 yards.
Also starring was kicker Omar Aboutoui. The wind was howling throughout the game, and Aboutoui showed off with booming kickoff touchbacks that almost went over the outfield wall of the baseball field that the Husson football team plays on. He also broke his own school record for longest FG, making one from 54-yards. Earlier in the year he made one at home from 53-yards. That kick barely made it over, bouncing on the cross bar and going over, while Saturday's kick, while aided by 20+ mph, would have been good from 60 yards.
Up next - The Colonels will return home to host UNE next Saturday at 12pm.
